Overview
For a recent marine restoration project, Cockfield Knight supported ARC marine in delivering a complex, multi-site logistics operation with seamless execution.
ARC marine Ltd is a UK-based eco-engineering company that developed its flagship product, Reef cubes®, a modular, low-carbon reef structure designed to support marine life and protect coastal infrastructure.
As part of the Wild Oyster Project, ARC marine aimed to deploy 20 large Reef cubes® to help restore native oyster reefs along the UK coastline.
Challenge
Cockfield Knight managed the transport of 20 oversized Reef cubes® – each 1.5 metres wide and weighing six tonnes – from two manufacturing sites in Cornwall and Bristol to a single deployment point in North Shields.
The operation demanded precise coordination of multiple heavy-haulage vehicles to ensure all units arrived within a tightly controlled time window at the same destination.
With no margin for delay, the team had to manage real-time vehicle movements, synchronise arrivals and enable immediate offloading to a deployment vessel, making this a highly complex and time-critical logistics challenge.
Solution
Cockfield Knight provided specialist heavy freight and marine logistics co-ordination, taking full ownership of the end-to-end logistics operation to ensure the safe delivery of the large Reef cubes® and co-ordinated offloading.
The synchronised delivery approach reduced the need for on-site storage and minimised operational delays. The project highlighted the value of working with a logistics partner experienced in marine environments, where timing and adaptability are crucial.
